About
It can be said that the history of the shipowners starts in the Dominican Republic when Cristopher Columbus moored his ships in the Ozama River, October 12, 1496.
Over time, the Dominican schooners that did business with agricultural products among the islands of the Caribbean Sea, were armed to battle it out on the South coast against Haitian invaders, before and after the Declaration of independence of February 27, 1844.
By the year 1889 the first publication appeared announcing the arrival and departure of vessels, on a printed sheet known as a maritime daily listing.
Six decades later, in August 1949, the agents and operators of vessels associated to form the Association of Shipowners of Santo Domingo, being its first President Robert W. Blauvelt, the Manager of the Alcoa Steamship Co., now defunct company.
