Santo Domingo
The Port of Santo Domingo began with the arrival of Columbus's caravels in 1492, and served the export of goods from the production centers located on the island during the colony, especially the gold mines that were exploited in the Bonao, Haina and Nizao rivers, since it offered good nature and safety conditions for the location of the boats.

After the colonial period, this port was formed by a small pier inside the estuary, after the San Diego fort. Already at the dawn of the 20th century, specifically in 1927, several improvement alternatives were proposed; in 1935 the berthing of deep draft ships and tourist boats was finally achieved.
Later, due to the great development of the port, it was necessary to build the Sans Souci tourist terminal to provide better service and have the necessary facilities. The last remodeling of the western edge of the river was carried out in 1989 with the creation of Avenida del Puerto. For this intervention the concept of the entire Colonial City was changed: at that time the aim was to highlight and highlight the colonial monuments in order to spread tourism in the area.
The Port of Santo Domingo is located on the Ozama River, in the city of Santo Domingo; it has 12 piers and a maximum depth of 10 m. It currently has the Santo Domingo terminal, the ferry terminal, the Don Diego tourist terminal, the Sans Souci tourist terminal, the Molinos del Ozama terminal and the Plaza Marina Bartolomé Colón marina.
